Leigh Day is looking for drivers, hired by third-party delivery companies, to join a potential group action against Amazon seeking employment rights. The drivers currently classed as self-employed are not entitled to the national minimum wage, holiday pay or a contract of employment. Leigh Day has begun legal action on behalf of two drivers and hopes to support more in a group action to seek recognition of worker or employee status. They claim that drivers are given estimated timings between deliveries on an App that they are expected to meet, their shifts are set for them, and they are required to book time off.
Leigh Day has successfully supported other workers bringing similar claims, including against Uber) and Addison Lee. If the action were to be successful, Leigh Day believes Amazon could owe at least 3,000 workers over £100 million.
